The Middle School Football team recorded an impressive victory Thursday night, defeating Langston Middle school (Oberlin) by a final score of 30-0. While everyone contributed to the win, there were several standout performances. Eighth grader Collin Thompson played both ways the entire game, recording several tackles for loss and leading the way for the Cardinal rushing attack on the offensive line. Quarterback Ryan Kelley, a fellow 8th grader, had several impressive runs and completed every pass he threw, including a 2 point conversion to 7th grader Alex Toth. John Michael Donaldson had numerous long runs, including a 55 yard touchdown and a 2 point conversion of his own for the 8th grader. Lincoln Barnhart made an impact in the secondary, as the 7th grader deflected a long pass to seal the shutout for the Cards, as well as defending several other passes from the safety spot. Fellow 7th grader Aidan McLaughlin was outstanding as he made several great plays from his defensive end spot and played well on the offensive line too. But the top performer on this night was 8th grade running back/linebacker Michael Gomes. On the offensive side of the ball Gomes tallied 3 touchdowns, two of which were over 35 yards, and a 2 point conversion as well. On the defensive side, Gomes was just as good, recording numerous tackles, several of which were in the offensive backfield.
The Cards will be back in action next Thursday, as they take on Clearview at home. Gametime is 5 o’clock!
