Girls Varsity Basketball · Girls Basketball Defeats Rhodes

The girls basketball team got a hard earned win on Saturday, defeating a scrappy Rhodes team by a final of 53-37. The Cards came out a little sluggish in this one, leading only 9-8 after 1 quarter, but outscored the Rams 15-4 in the second to take a 24-12 lead into the locker room. Senior Jelene Williams sparked the Cards in the third stanza, scoring 6 of her game high 18 points as Brookside pushed the lead out to 38-19 after 3. The Cleveland squad played well in the last quarter, cutting the lead to  just 10 before the Cards were able to take control back and cruise to the final. Brookside will be back in action Wednesday as they host conference rival Black River, with the JV tip being at 5:30.
