They say a tie is like kissing your sister. It isn’t what you play the game for. But for the young men who took the field Thursday night, it was not only what they got in their fi al game of the season, it was there farewell to the Patriot Athletic Conference. In the final game of the PAC, the Cardinal middle school squad tied powerhouse Buckeye. The final score was 6-6. The game started out in the Cards favor, as they created a turnover on the first Buck drive, and promptly drove down the field and scored on a Ryan Kelley QB sneak. The Bucks answered with a score of their own, a 25 yard touchdown pass to make it 6-6 at the half. Buckeye threatened again early in the 3rd quarter, but Collin Thompson made a big tackle on 4th and short to deny the Bucks a first down. Buckeye looked like they were going to get a scoring drive going in the 4th quarter, but a Buckeye back that looked like he had some room to run was drilled out of nowhere on an outstanding open field tackle by Xavier Brown. It was probably the est tackle of the year, and it sealed the final score. It concludes an outstanding season for these young men, who are quite possibly the most improved team o er the course of a season that we have had the privilege of working with. We are extremely proud of these young men and look forward to watching them at the next level. Attached is a photo of this year’s 8th graders. A great group of young men!
